An example of attempts to provide standardization is the charge of the Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The charge of this office is to develop minimum performance standards, test methods and procedures for evaluating technologies used by the criminal justice and public safety communities.
